Butt, Doss win semistate titles, Glesing also clinches state berth

Gunner Butt and Bryce Doss both won semistate championships, while William Glesing also earned a trip to the boys wrestling State Finals with a second-place finish at Saturday's New Castle semistate. Butt and Doss will be making their third consecutive State Finals appearances, while Glesing will make his first. They will compete Friday and Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. At 138, Butt improved to 35-2 on the season. He pinned his first three opponents - taking 29 seconds to earn the fall over Milan's Dillan Engel in the opening round, then pinning Hamilton Heights' Simon Kuhn in 5:23 in the ticket round. In the semifinal, he pinned Greenfield-Central's Cade Zuber in 3:05. He beat Chatard's Jack Davis 4-0 in the championship match. At 144, Doss improved to 33-1. He pinned Hagerstown's Gus Golliher in the opening round in 1:15. In the ticket round, he won an 11-0 major decision over Crawfordsville's Landon Vaught. He also posted another major decision - 19-6 - over Fountain Central's Dakoda Willoughby in the semifinal. In the championship match, he earned another major decision victory - 10-1 over Chatard's Sam Bustamante. Glesing was the runner-up at 285 and is now 21-5 on the year. He won a 19-3 tech fall over Western Boone's Isaac El-Shahat in the opening round, then posted a 10-2 major decision victory over New Castle's Logan Mendoza to earn his State Finals spot. He pinned Westfield's Job Mavrick in 2:25 in the semifinal, before losing by fall to Warren Central's Jacari Markey in 2:36 in the title match. Two other Dragons competed at the semistate. Colin Whetsel fell just short of advancing for the second straight year at 215. He pinned Frankton's Jonah Ellis in 1:03 in the opening round, but lost a 1-0 decision to Fishers' Julian Burgett in the ticket round. At 165, Gabe Flick was pinned by Pendleton Heights' Turner Seale in 4:43 in the opening round. As a team, the Dragons finished fourth out of 57 teams in the semistate with a score of 75.5, finishing behind Warren Central (129.5), Roncalli (96.5) and Cathedral (87.5).
