The New Palestine wrestling team had three Warren Central sectional champions and advanced seven wrestlers to next week's Perry Meridian regional. As a team, the Dragons finished fourth with 154 points in the nine-team sectional. Warren Central (251) won the title over Greenfield-Central (234) and Franklin Central (180). Cole Vandygriff was the Dragons' first champion, as he drew a bye into the semifinal round before pinning Franklin Central's Demario Ezelle in 1:43 and beating Greenfield-Central's Lincoln Parsons in overtime 6-4 to win the title at 113. Vandygriff heads to the regional 24-4. At 120, Bryce Doss claimed a second title. He also drew byes into the semifinal round before beating G-C's Cade Zuber 12-0 and Warren Central's Terry Easley 3-1. Doss is 20-2. At 195, Shaun Glass gave the Dragons their third title. He drew a bye into the semifinals, where he went to OT before pinning FC's Julius Parker in 6:31. He then won the title match 7-0 over Warren Central's Brylin Smith. Glass is 24-3. Gunner Butt advanced to the sectional final and finished second. He won his semifinal match 10-3 over FC's Richard Rogers and dropped a 7-1 decision to G-C's Jeff McGuire in the final. Also placing second was Tyler Lavin. He won a 15-3 major decision over WC's Adrian Cohen in the quarterfinal, then beat G-C's Dylan Luther 5-2 before dropping a 7-3 decision to FC's Gauge Clark in the final. Jaedyn Jeffries finished fourth at 152. He won his first match by fall before dropping a tech fall in the semis. He wrestled back to the third place match with a 4-1 win over Shelbyville's Andrew Burton to clinch a regional spot, before falling 3-1 to WC's Hunter Wagers in the third-place match. At 170, Gavin Wilcher placed fourth and will advance. He won a 14-0 major decision over Triton Central's Trevor Ashman before losing by fall to G-C's Clay Guenin in the semis. He pinned Purdue Poly's Edgar Mora in 1:37 in the wrestlebacks before falling 6-1 to FC's Ethan Zellman in the third-place match. Placing fifth were Gabe Flick (160) and Brandon Brees (220). Colin Whetstel was sixth at 182. The seven advancing Dragons next compete at the Feb. 4 Perry Meridian regional.
