New Palestine senior Chloe Siler set a school record in the 100 butterfly, swimming it in 1:00.59, leading the New Palestine delegation in Thursday's girls swimming sectional preliminaries. The Dragons advanced seven individual swims and three relays to Saturday's finals. In addition, there will be 12 swims in the consolation finals. Siler will swim in the finals of the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, where she will be the No. 2 and No. 3 seed, respectively. Lillie Abernathy will be in the finals of the 100 breaststroke as the No. 3 seed, and the 100 butterfly as the sixth seed. Piper Schaefer will be the sixth seed in the 100 breaststroke. Ireland Armstrong will be the No. 6 seed in the 500 freestyle. Cadyn Brown will be the No. 8 seed in the 100 freestyle. In addition, the 200 medley relay team of Armstrong, Abernathy, Siler and Rachel Hamilton will be the No. 2 seed in the 200 medley relay. Abernathy, Brown, Hamilton and Siler will be the No. 2 seed in the 200 free relay. Brown, singer, Stone and Armstrong will be the fifth seed in the 400 free relay. Saturday's sectional finals will begin at 9 a.m. with the diving competition, followed by the swimming finals at 1 p.m. at the NPHS Natatorium.
