Swimmers sweep senior night

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams swept Thursday's senior night, with the Dragons boys winning 135-44 and the girls winning 96-83. The Dragons boys won nine of the 12 events en route to a victory. Individual winners were Dontae Thompson in the 200 free (2:01.46), James Watson in the 200 IM (2:24.47), Daxton Gibson in diving (174.75), Karter McNeil in the 500 free (5:44.92), Dawson Lynch in the 100 backstroke (1:03.18) and Aidan Kingery in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.81). The Dragons also swept the relays, with Lynch, Kingery, Liam Fuller and Chase Martin winning the 200 medley relay (1:49.35), Ashton Turner, Jake Myers, Ian Erwin and Lynch winning the 200 free relay (1:37.41) and Luke Appleby, McNeil, Reese Cox and Myers winning the 400 free relay (3:48.70). Individuals finishing second were McNeil in the 200 free, Quinn Crawmer in the 200 IM, Martin in the 50 free, Cade Rodgers in diving, Cox in the 100 butterfly, Thompson in the 100 free and Blake Hurst in the 100 backstroke. The Dragons girls won four events, with Ava Tuley winning diving (170.30) and Adrianna Huston the 100 freestyle (57.13). Sullie Leavell, Lillie Abernathy, Chloe Siler and Huston won the 200 free relay (1:48.29) and 400 free relay (4:01.03). Individuals finishing second for the Dragons were Kyleigh Turner in the 50 free, Lauren Appleby in diving, Siler in the 100 butterfly and Katelyn Trimpe in the 500 free and 100 backstroke. The Dragons boys are 7-1 on the season, while the girls finish the regular season 6-6. The boys next compete Monday, Jan. 30 at home against Greenwood and Roncalli. THe girls next compete in the New Palestine sectional Feb. 2 and Feb. 4.
