Girls basketball drops road finale

The New Palestine girls basketball team dropped its final road game of the regular season Tuesday, falling 70-33 to 3A No. 1 Greensburg. The Dragons hung with the Pirates early, trailing 14-9 after a quarter, with Kylee Beranek scoring four points and Sadey Hughbanks hitting a 3-pointer. Greensburg built a double-digit lead in the second, going up 29-15 at the half. Gabbie Brown scored all six second-quarter points for the Dragons, including 4-4 from the line. Brooklyn Crim scored four third-quarter points, while Beranek and Hughbanks each hit triples, but the Dragons trailed 47-25 going into the fourth. The Pirates poured things on in the fourth quarter, scoring 23 points with their starters playing much of the quarter long after the final outcome had been decided. Mylie Wilkison, their leading scorer, tallied nine of her game-high 26 points in the quarter, including a late 3-pointer. The Dragons were led by Beranek and Hughbanks, who scored nine points each. Brown tallied six, Crime four, Tylar Whitaker three and Kendra Moore two. The Dragons are now 10-10 on the season. They host Yorktown Thursday for Senior Night.
