Swim teams sweep Warren Central Invitational titles

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams swept the titles at Saturday's Warren Central Invitational. The Dragons girls scored 439 points, beating second-place Ben Davis (375) and third-place Cathedral (347) to win the 10-team invitational. The Dragons boys tallied 485, finishing ahead of Ben Davis (336), Cathedral (256) and the rest of the 10-team field. Ireland Armstrong, Lillie Abernathy, Chloe Siler and Rachel Hamilton led off the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Siler also won the 50 freestyle, with Hamilton fourth and Heidi Bloomer 12th. Siler posted another win in the 100 butterfly, with Abernathy third and Ellie Ragsdale sixth. The 200 free relay of Abernathy, Cadyn Brown, Hamilton and Siler also won. Armstrong was second in the 500 freestyle, with Isabelle Singer sixth and Ansley Tucker 10th. Armstrong also finished second in the 100 backstroke, with Arianna Tull third and Halle Amones ninth. Abernathy was second in the 100 breaststroke, with Piper Schaefer fourth and Jozlynn Hart seventh. Singer was third in the 200 IM, with Schaefer fourth and Madi Bard ninth. Isabelle Tull was fourth in diving, with Katie Kelley 14th. Brown was fifth in the 100 freestyle, with Hamilton sixth and Arianna Tull 13th. In the 200 free, Brown was seventh, Tucker 11th and Ava Flannagan 19th. The 400 free relay of Brown, Tucker, Singer and Armstrong also finished fourth. The Dragons boys also led off the meet with a win, with Dawson Lynch, Blake Hurst, Jake Myers and James Watson winning the 200 medley relay. The 200 free relay of Luke Appleby, Ashton Turner, Myers and Watson also won. The Dragons won four individual events. Cox led a 1-2-3 finish, followed by Hurst and Appleby. Watson won two events. He won the 100 free, with Turner third and Parker Hurst ninth. Watson also won the 50 freestyle, with Turner third and Myers sixth. Lynch won the 100 backstroke, with Cox second and Karter McNeil fourth. Lynch was also second in the 200 freestyle, with Luke Bartusek fourth and Sam Dobbins sixth. Myers was second in the 100 butterfly, with McNeil third and Appleby fourth. Hurst finished third in the 100 breaststroke, with Schmidt sixth and Parker Hurst 10th. ' Max Watson was fourth in the 500 freestyle, with Ben Edwards 10th and Bartusek 12th. Aidan Stephens was seventh in diving. The 400 free relay of Appleby, McNeil, Turner and Lynch finished second to finish the meet.
