Girls basketball rallies to win in OT

The New Palestine girls basketball team rallied from a slow start Friday, using a big third quarter to pull ahead and then holding on for a 42-38 overtime victory at East Central. The Dragons trailed 10-2 after a quarter, with Tylar Whitaker scoring NP's lone points, and freshman Natalie Stenger scoring all of the Trojans' points. NP had a strong second quarter, as Brooklyn Crim and Sadey Hughbanks scored four points each, but NP trailed 21-13 at the break. The Dragons came alive in the third, holding the host Trojans to three points. Kendra Moore hit two 3-pointers, Gabbie Brown scored a three-point play and Sadey Hughbanks tallied six points, as the Dragons raced to a 28-24 lead. In the fourth, East Central rallied to tie the game at 34-34 going into the extra session. Hughbanks hit an early three-point play to put the Dragons up, added a basket and the Dragons hit three late free throws to seal the victory. Hughbanks led the way for the Dragons with 15 points, tallying 11 in the second half. Moore and Brown each scored eight. Whitaker and Crim tallied four each. Kylee Beranek scored two, while Haven Flagle tallied one. Stenger led EC with 16 points. The Dragons are now 10-9 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Greensburg.
