Girls basketball posts big victory over Waldron

The New Palestine girls basketball team posted a big 62-21 victory over Waldron Thursday evening on the road. All 12 Dragons who played scored in the game. The Dragons had a big offensive first quarter, fueled by three consecutive 3-pointers from Haven Flagle and back-to-back from Kendra Moore. Moore scored six points and Sadey Hughbanks four in the opening frame as seven different Dragons scored. NP led 24-10 after a period, then held Waldron scoreless in the middle frame. Kylee Beranek hit a triple and scored four points, while Gabbie Brown and Tylar Whitaker scored three each, giving the Dragons a 38-10 halftime edge. Seven different Dragons scored in the third quarter as NP pushed the lead to 53-15. Ally White, McKenzie Hacker, Tessa Mohr and Brylie Kirstein all scored in the fourth to set the final margin. Brown and Hughbanks led the Dragons with nine points each. Beranek and Moore each tallied eight points. Kenna Tweedy added six. McKenzie Hacker scored five points. White scored four. Mohr, Whitaker and Flagle tallied three points each, while Brooklyn Crim and Kirstein each tallied two. The Dragons held the Mohawks to the lowest point total allowed by a New Palestine team since a 68-17 win over Connersville on Nov. 7, 2019. The 41-point margin was the largest since a 68-24 victory over New Castle Nov. 29, 2022. The Dragons are now 9-9 on the season. They next play Friday at East Central.
