Swimmers sweep Spartans

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams swept Connersville Thursday in the Dragons' home finale. The Dragons girls won 120-59 to finish the dual meet season 8-5. The Dragons boys won 133-34 and improved to 8-2 on the season. Winners for the Dragons girls were Ireland Armstrong in the 50 freestyle (28.12) and 100 backstroke (1:10.84), Lillie Abernathy in the 100 butterfly (1:05.58) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.76) and Isabelle Tull in diving (162.50). Also winning were the 200 medley relay of Arianna Tull, Abernathy, Armstrong and Cadyn Brown (2:07.66); and the 400 free relay of Chloe Siler, Armstrong, Rachel Hamilton and Abernathy (4:13.90). Finishing second were Siler in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Isabelle Singer in the 200 IM, Brown in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Hamilton in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay of Piper Schaefer, Hanna Stone, Singer and Ansley Tucker; and the 200 free relay of Arianna Tull, Schaefer, Singer and Brown. Winners for the Dragons boys were James Watson in the 200 freestyle (1:54.33) and 100 freestyle (51.39), Dawson Lynch in the 200 IM (2:12.78), Ashton Turner in the 50 freestyle (23.92), Aidan Stephens in diving (166.00), Jake Myers in the 500 butterfly (59.70) and Blake Hurst in the 100 backstroke (1:02.62). Also winning were the 200 medley relay of Sam Dobbins, Hurst, Lynch and Myers (1:49.22); the 200 free relay of Lynch, Luke Appleby, Turner and Watson (1:34.93); and the 400 free relay of Turner, Reese Cox, Karter McNeil and Watson (3:42.89). Finishing second were Cox in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Hurst in the 200 IM, McNeil in the 50 freestyle, Lynch in the 100 freestyle, Ben Edwards in the 500 freestyle, the 200 medley relay of Parker Hurst, Tyler Schmidt, Appleby and Luke Bartusek; the 200 free relay of Blake Hurst, McNeil, Cox and Myers; and the 400 free relay of Seth Merchant, Garrett Elkins, Parker Hurst and Bartusek. Both teams are back in action Saturday at the Warren Central Warrior Invitational.
