Wrestlers deliver three HHC champs, finish second

Three New Palestine boys wrestlers won individual Hoosier Heritage Conference championships Saturday, leading the Dragons to a second-place finish. Gunner Butt won the title at 138, winning with two first-period pins before beating Greenfield-Central's Cade Zuber 14-4 in the final. Butt is now 24-2 on the season. At 144, Bryce Doss remained unbeaten, as he won by forfeit in the first match, then by first-period fall in the semis and an 11-2 major decision over Yorktown's Wyatt Hoppes in the final. Colin Whetsel won the title at 215. He got to the final with two falls, then won 13-3 over Greenfield-Central's Tristen Lanum. He is now 20-1 on the year. William Glesing was the fourth Dragon in the finals. He finished second at 285. Placing third for the Dragons were Blake Doss (113), Braeden Lintner (132), Isaiah Jones (175) and Eli Oberle (190). Wes Harbert (120) placed fourth. Kaeden Nelson (106) and Landon Stranger (126) were fifth. Gabe Flick (165) was sixth. Twelve of the Dragons' 14 wrestlers placed. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Greenwood to finish the dual meet season.
