Wagner-Gilbert fourth at State Finals

June Wagner-Gilbert finished in fourth place at the inaugural IHSAA girls wrestling State Finals Friday, winning her first two matches to advance to the state semifinals. Wagner-Gilbert won her first match 6-1 over Greencastle's Aurora Roberts. She then pinned Mooresville's Madison Whitted in 2:21 to advance to the state semifinal at 130. In the semifinal, she lost to the eventual state champion, Garrett's Nevaeh Wilson, 12-0. In the third-place match, Wagner-Gilbert dropped a 6-2 decision to Crown Point's Kylie Benoit. At 140, Jillian Champ dropped her first-round match, falling to Mishawaka's Kaylee Smith by fall in 1:13.
