Girls basketball drops road conference match

The New Palestine girls basketball team dropped a 57-35 decision Friday at Pendleton Heights. The Dragons moved to 8-10 on the season and 3-3 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play. Isabella Gizzi reached a milestone, becoming the first Dragon girls basketball player to score 1,500 career points. She tallied 13 points in the victory, giving her an even 1,500 for her career. Allie Blum added 11 points for the Dragons. The Dragons had a solid first quarter, as Gizzi scored six points while she, Blum and Tylar Whitaker all hit 3-pointers. The Dragons trailed 16-14 after the first eight minutes, but were outscored 16-7 in the second quarter and faced a 32-21 halftime deficit. Blum hit a 3-pointer, while Gizzi and Sadey Hughbanks each hit two free throws in the frame. Blum added four third-quarter points as the Dragons fell behind 49-30 after the penultimate quarter. In addition to the two double-figure scorers, Whitaker scored five points, Hughbanks four and Vivian Miller two. Kaycie Warfel scored 28 points to lead PH. She had eight in the first quarter and added eight more in the third-quarter run that put the game away. Whitney Warfel added 12 points for the Arabians. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Waldron.
