Swimmers win on Senior Night

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams swept Shelbyville Thursday on the Dragons' Senior Night. The Dragons girls won 100-80, while the boys won 130-49. Winners for the Dragons girls were Isabelle Tull in diving (179.85), Chloe Siler in the 100 freestyle (56.76) and 100 backstroke (1:08.60), Ireland Armstrong in the 500 freestyle (6:06.33) and Lillie Abernathy in the 100 breaststorke (1:14.53). Finishing second were Cadyn Brown in the 200 freestyle, Abernathy in the 200 IM, Rachel Hamilton in the 50 freestyle, Isabelle Singer in the 200 butterfly, Arianna Tull in the 100 backstroke, Piper Schaefer in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay team of Schaefer, Singer, Madi Bard and Ava Flannagan, the 400 free relay team of Arianna Tull, Abernathy, Bard and Brown, and the 400 free relay team of Armstrong, Singer, Brown and Abernathy. Winners for the Dragons boys were Dawson Lynch in the 200 IM (2:11.41) and 100 butterfly (58.24), James Watson in the 100 freestyle (51.65), Luke Appleby in the 50 freestyle (23.85), Aidan Stephens in diving (178.60), James Watson in the 500 freestyle (5:19.83), Blake Hurst in the 100 backstroke (1:02.76), the 200 medley relay of Sam Dobbins, Tyler Schmidt, Appleby and Luke Bartusek (1:54.01), and the 400 free relay team of Merchant, Karter McNeil, Ashton Turner and Lynch (3:51.33). Finishing second were Reese Cox in the 200 freestyle, McNeil in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Dobbins in the 100 butterfly, Jake Myers in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay team of McNeil, Watson, Seth Merchant and David Gould, the 200 free relay team of Lynch, Turner, Merchant and Watson, and the 400 free relay team of Appleby, Parker Hurst, Garrett Elkins and Dobbins. The Dragons boys are now 7-2, the girls are 7-4. The Dragons are back home Jan. 23 against Connersville.
