Girls basketball locks down TC

The New Palestine girls basketball team took command in the second quarter, then locked down host Triton Central in the second half in a 47-29 victory. The Dragons built a 29-19 halftime lead with a 21-point second quarter, then held TC to just 10 second-half points, including not allowing a field goal in the final quarter. The Dragons led 8-7 after a quarter, with Sadey Hughbanks scoring five points and Kendra Moore hitting a 3-pointer. But the Dragons took command in the second, with Brown scoring six points and Tylar Whitaker and Brooklyn Crim adding four each. In the third, Haven Flagle and Kylee Beranek both hit 3-pointers and Beranek scored five points, helping the Dragons extend the lead to 39-27. But then the Dragons held TC without a field goal in the fourth quarter. Hughbanks and Brown each scored four points and the Dragons hit 6-of-8 from the line - with Brown hitting 4-of-6 - to put the game away. Hughbanks led the Dragons with 13 points. Brown added 10. Moore scored six points. Beranek had five. Whitaker and Crim scored four each. The 29 points allowed were the fewest since Dec. 21, 2023, when the Dragons beat Southport 60-22. The Dragons (8-7) have now won three consecutive games and are undefeated in 2025. They are next in action Friday at Pendleton Heights.
