Boys swim sets two records, finishes second in HHC

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team set two school records Saturday en route to a second-place finish at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet at the NPHS Natatorium. The Dragons tallied 346 points, falling in a close meet to Greenfield-Central, which won with 375.5. The Dragons beat out third-place Yorktown (339) and fourth-place Mt. Vernon (257). The Dragons set two school records. Dawson Lynch, Blake Hurst, Jake Myers and James Watson set a record in the 200 medley relay, swimming 1:40.87 and finishing second by two hundredths of a second. Lynch set a school record in the 100 backstroke in 55.94, where he finished third. Lynch finished second in the 200 IM (2:07.0), with Reese Cox seventh and Hurst eighth. Watson was also second in the 100 freestyle (49.63), with Turner fifth. Myers finished third in the 100 butterfly (55.42), with Karter McNeil eighth. Hurst finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.59). Watson was fourth in the 50 freestyle (22.69), with Ashton Turner eighth. In addition to Lynch's third-place finish in the 100 backstroke, Myers was sixth and Cox seventh. The 200 free relay of Luke Appleby, McNeil, Myers and Turner was third (1:33.24). The 400 free relay team of Lynch, McNeil, Turner and Watson also finished third (3:29.10). The Dragons are back in the pool Thursday at home against Shelbyville.
