The New Palestine girls basketball team hit a season-high 11 3-pointers Tuesday, but were unable to climb out of a second-half deficit in a 56-48 road loss at Triton Central. Isabella Gizzi hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points, while Vivian Miller hit four triples and scored 12 to lead the Dragons. Gizzi and Miller each hit triples in the first quarter, sandwiched between two Gizzi free throws, but NP trailed 11-8 after a frame. The Dragons outscored TC 15-14 in the second quarter, with Allie Blum starting the frame with a 3-pointer for the Dragons. Gizzi hit two more triples, Miller one and Kylee Beranek added the Dragons' lone two-point field goal of the half, but they trailed 25-23 at the break. TC extended its lead to 41-36 after three, despite 3-pointers from Miller and Tylar Whitaker. Blum, Sadey Hughbanks and Gizzi added baskets. In the fourth, Gizzi opened with a conventional three-point play. She hit a later 3-pointer, Miller added one and Gizzi ht a late triple, but TC was 4-for-4 from the line in the closing stages to keep the Dragons from rallying. Maryrose Felling led three Tigers in double figures with 15 points. In addition to the two double-figure scorers, Blum scored six points for the Dragons. Whitaker scored three, while Beranek and Hughbanks scored two each. The Dragons (8-9) next play Friday at Pendleton Heights, a game that will be played at Pendleton Heights Middle School.
