Boys swimming finishes second in HHC

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team placed second in Saturday's Hoosier Heritage Conference meet at the NPHS Natatorium. The Dragons tallied 368 points, finishing behind HHC champion Yorktown (391). Mt. Vernon (359) was third, followed by Greenfield-Central (254), Pendleton Heights (218), Delta (210), New Castle (158) and Shelbyville (135). The 200 medley relay team of Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Liam Fuller and Chase Martin finished third to open the meet, breaking the school record with a time of 1:43.95. The 200 free relay team of Ian Erwin, Martin, Fuller and Dontae Thompson also finished third. The Dragons had three scorers in each individual event. Their best event was diving, as Aidan Stephens was fourth, Daxton Gibson fifth and Cade Rodgers sixth. Kingery had the top individual performance, finishing fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Blake Hurst was sixth and Martin ninth. The Dragons won two ribbons in the 100 freestyle, also, as Thompson was fifth and Erwin sixth. Ashton Turner placed 11th. In the 100 butterfly, Jake Myers was sixth, Fuller seventh and Luke Appleby 15th. James Watson finished sixth and Lynch seventh in the 500 freestyle, with Karter McNeil 12th. Lynch was sixth in the 100 backstroke, with Myers ninth and Reese Cox 11th. In the 50 freestyle, Martin was seventh and Fuller eighth, with Thompson placing ninth. Watson was seventh in the 200 freestyle, with Erwin 12th and McNeil 13th. In the 200 IM, Cox finished eighth, with Hurst ninth and Kingery 11th. Erwin, Myers, Watson and Thompson finished fifth in the 400 free relay. The Dragons are next in the pool Tuesday at home against Beech Grove. The boys/girls dual meet begins at 5:30 p.m.
