Wrestlers win dual with Franklin Central

The New Palestine wrestling team opened its 2023 schedule Thursday by defeating Franklin Central 30-29, winning the match on the first tiebreaking criterion. The Dragons won eight of the 14 matches to clinch the match. Isaac Poetz started the match with a win by fall at 145. It was the Dragons' lone pin of the night. Jaedyn Jeffries won by major decision at 152, while Cole Vandygriff also had a major decision at 113. Shaun Glass (195) and Gunner Butt (106) won by decision, as did Bryce Doss at 120. An FC victory by fall at 126 gave the Flashes a 29-23 lead in the team score. Jack Rossell won a tight 5-4 decision at 132 to draw the Dragons to within three, where they'd clinch the match with a victory. Elijah Alonso then posted a 5-1 victory at 138 to clinch the victory. The Dragons are now 7-7 in dual meets this season. They next compete Wednesday at Lawrence North.
