Girls basketball drops conference game

A slow start put the New Palestine girls basketball team in a deficit they couldn't fully climb out of in a 55-41 loss to Mt. Vernon Tuesday. The Dragons fell behind 21-9 after a quarter, with Sadey Hughbanks scoring four points. Haven Flagle scored all five of the Dragons' second-quarter points as the deficit became 31-14 at the break. Kylee Beranek scored five in the third quarter as MV led 41-23. In the fourth, Beranek scored seven points and the Dragons hit three 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Beranek led the Dragons with 12 points. Flagle added 11. Kendra Moore scored six. Hughbanks and Tylar Whitaker tallied five each. Brooklyn Crim scored two. The Dragons are now 5-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play. They next play Wednesday at home against Guerin Catholic.
