Swim teams sweep Cathedral

The New Palestine swimming and diving teams had a strong night Tuesday, sweeping Cathedral in a dual meet. The Dragons boys won 118-55, while the girls won a tight 93-87 meet. James Watson (23.12) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle, with Ashton Turner and Jake Myers finishing second and third. Dawson Lynch (58.39) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke, with Luke Appleby and Sam Dobbins finishing second and third. Other winners for the Dragons boys were Lynch in the 200 IM (2:11.80) and Turner in the 100 freestyle (54.26). The Dragons also swept the relays. Winning were 200 medley relay team of Lynch, Blake Hurst, Myers and James Watson (1:45.25), the 200 free relay team of Hurst, Reese Cox, Turner and Karter McNeil (1:38.54), and the 400 free relay team of McNeil, Turner, Lynch and Watson (3:37.45). Finishing second were McNeil in the 100 butterfly, Myers in the 100 freestyle, Watson in the 500 freestyle, Hurst in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 free relay team of Cox, Appleby, Dobbins and Myers. Winners for the Dragons girls were Lillie Abernathy in the 200 freestyle (2:15.46) and 100 freestyle (1:00.68), Chloe Siler in the 50 freestyle (25..19), Isabelle Tull in diving (211.90) and the 200 free relay of Piper Schaefer, Isabelle Singer, Cadyn Brown and Abernathy (1:56.08). Finishing second were Ireland Armstrong in the 200 IM, Kylie Knoop in diving, Siler in the 100 butterfly, Schaefer in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay team of Rachel Hamilton, Schaefer, Armstrong and Siler the 400 free relay team of Armstrong, Abernathy, Hamilton and Siler. The Dragons girls are now 3-0 on the season, while the boys are 1-0. They next compete Dec. 3 at home against Greenfield-Central.
