The New Palestine girls basketball team returned home from a four-game road swing Thursday, but dropped a 55-31 decision to Cathedral. The Dragons played strong defense in the early stages, but struggled to score against the taller Irish, who had three players 6-feet or taller in their starting lineup, and trailed 12-4 after a quarter, with Vivian Miller and Isabella Gizzi scoring baskets. The Dragons were outscored 14-6 in the second quarter, with Gizzi scoring five of the Dragons' points, and trailed 26-10 at halftime. The Dragons warmed up in the third quarter, with Gizzi and Allie Blum each hitting 3-pointers, but were outscored 16-12 in the frame and trailed 42-22 going into the final frame. Blum scored five points in the final frame. Taylor Lewis led Cathedral with 28 points. The Dragons are now 7-6 on the season. They next play Tuesday at home against Lawrence Central. The Dragons dropped the JV game 39-34.
