Boys swimming downs PH, girls fall

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team won six events Tuesday and used its depth to power a 108-78 road victory over Pendleton Heights. The Dragons had a pair of 1-2 finishes. In the 100 breaststroke, Aidan Kingery won with a time of 1:09.51, with Chase Martin finishing second. The Dragons also swept the 200 free relay, with Martin, Ashton Turner, Liam Fuller and Dontae Thompson winning in 1:39.49. Kingery, Karter McNeil, James Watson and Ian Erwin finished second. Also winning were Erwin in the 50 freestyle (24.11), Thompson in the 100 freestyle (54.80) and Dawson Lynch in the 500 freestyle (5:28.87). The 200 medley relay of Lynch, Kingery, Fuller and Martin also won in 1:49.55. Also placing second were Thompson in the 200 freestyle, Blake Hurst in the 200 IM, Daxton Gibson in diving, Lynch in the 100 backstroke and the 400 free relay team of Thompson, Lynch, Erwin and Fuller. The Dragons girls dropped a 114-72 decision. Chloe Siler had the Dragons' victory, splitting the points as she tied Pendleton Heights' swimmer in the 50 freestyle in 26.37. Placing second were Ava Tuley in diving, Sullie Leavell in the 100 butterfly, Olivia Melangton in the 500 freestyle and Madalyn Bard in the 100 breaststroke. All three relays also finished second - Katelyn Trimpe, Lillie Abernathy, Siler and Kyleigh Turner in the 200 medley relay; Trimpe, Turner, Leavell and Siler in the 200 free relay and Abenathy, Rachel Hamilton, Trimpe and Leavell in the 400 free relay. The Dragons boys are now 5-1 on the season, while the girls are 4-6. The Dragons are now off for winter training. They will be back in action Jan. 5-7, when they host the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet. The girls diving competition will take place Jan. 5, with the swimming events the following night. The HHC boys swimming and diving competitions will both be held Jan. 7.
