Girls basketball falls on road

The New Palestine girls basketball team fell into an early deficit and was unable to rally Tuesday in a 54-28 loss at Mt. Vernon. The Dragons trailed 11-2 after a quarter and 29-10 at halftime. Isabella Gizzi led the Dragons with six points at the break. In the third quarter, the Dragons had their best frame of the night, as Gizzi scored 10 points, including a 3-pointer and a three-shot foul, but the Dragons trailed 40-22 headed into the final frame, when they were outscored 14-6. Gizzi led the Dragons with 19 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and going 7-of-7 from the line. Vivian Miller added four points, Allie Blum three and Tylar Whitaker two. The Dragons are now 7-5 on the season and 3-2 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play. The Dragons JV won 28-26 on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Gabrielle Brown. The Dragons next play Thursday at home against Cathedral. with a 6 p.m. JV and 7:30 p.m. varsity tip.
