Boys basketball brings juice down stretch in victory over G-C

The New Palestine boys basketball team used strong shooting down the stretch in the fourth quarter to beat Greenfield-Central 53-46. The Dragons rallied from a five-point halftime deficit, but showed strong compete in the third to take the lead in the third quarter by outscoring G-C 15-9. The Dragons then built the lead to double-digits in the fourth. The key stretch came at the start of the frame. After Blaine Nunnally's basket gave the Dragons a 34-33 lead going into the final frame, Julius Gizzi opened the fourth with a 3-pointer. Bryant Nunnally followed with a triple, then Blaine hit one on the next possession to key a 9-1 run that put the Dragons up 43-34. For Gizzi and Bryant Nunnally, it would be their only points of the night, but they came at a key moment. Three free throws by Blaine Nunnally pushed the lead to 45-34, one of which drew the fifth foul on G-C sophomore standout Braylon Mullins, and the Dragons put the game away from there, starting with a three-point play by Blaine Nunnally. G-C had a late push from its leading scorer Dylan Moles, who scored eight points in the final quarter, but the Dragons were able to put the game away. The teams had a back-and-forth first quarter, after which the Dragons trailed 12-10 despite four points each from Blaine Nunnally and Ian Stephens. G-C outscored the Dragons 12-9 in the second, with Ben Slagley scoring four points. The Dragons clawed back into the game with a big third quarter, bolstered by Stephens scoring eight points, including 6-of-6 from the line. The Dragons improved to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in HHC play. G-C fell to 3-1 (0-1). Stephens and Blaine Nunnally led the Dragons with 17 pointe each. Slagley added nine. Eian Roudebush scored four points. Gizzi and Bryant Nunnally scored three each. Bryant Nunnally also played outstanding defense on G-C's leading scorer Dylan Moles, who had to work hard for his 22 points. The Dragons dropped the JV game, played Thursday, 35-34. The Dragons freshmen fell 49-33 Thursday night. The Dragons are next in action Dec. 16 at home against conference rival New Castle.
