The New Palestine girls basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Friday, as the Dragons fell 52-38 at Greenfield-Central. The Dragons battled early foul trouble and fell behind 7-3 after a quarter, with Vivian Miller scoring the lone points of the opening frame. In the second, guard Isabella Gizzi was whistled for her second and third fouls in seconds, on a highly-disputed charge and then a foul while fighting through a screen. Miller scored seven points in the quarter, including a late 3-pointer, to draw the Dragons within five at 21-16 at halftime. The Dragons got an early basket from Tylar Whitaker and seven straight points from Gizzi to cut the deficit to 29-26 late in the third, but G-C scored the last four points of the frame to go up 33-26 and the Dragons could draw no closer, as the Cougars hit a pair of 3-pointers in the early part of the frame to stretch the lead. Miller led the Dragons with 16 points, her fifth consecutive double-figure game. She hit a pair of 3-pointers. She was the Dragons' lone double-figure scorer. Gizzi tallied nine points, all in the second half. Whitaker scored six points, Allie Blum five and Natalie Sevier two. The Dragons won the junior varsity game, played on Thursday, 42-16. The Dragons are now 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play. They next play Tuesday at Mt. Vernon.
