Boys swimming sweeps Trojans, Royals; girls split

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team swept New Castle and Eastern Hancock Thursday in a triangular meet at New Castle. The Dragons beat EH 168-27 and New Castle 154-110. The Dragons girls split their meet, beating EH 161-87 and falling to NC 156-123. Individual winners for the Dragons boys were Dawson Lynch in the 200 freestyle (2:03.23) and 100 backstroke (1:01.24), Chase Martin in the 50 freestyle (24.55), Aidan Stephens in diving (165.05), Ian Erwin in the 100 freestyle (55.09) and Dontae Thompson in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.50). The Dragons also swept the relays. Jake Myers, Aidan Kingery, Reese Cox and James Watson won the 200 medley relay (1:54.91). Erwin, Martin, Thompson and Liam Fuller won the 200 free relay (1:38.56) and Lynch, Ashton Turner, Watson and Thompson won the 400 free relay (3:45.13). Finishing second were Fuller in the 50 free, Daxton Gibson in diving, Myers in the 100 butterfly, Turner in the 100 freestyle and Blake Hurst in the 100 backstroke. Myers, Luke Appleby, Karter McNeil and Kingery finished second in the 200 free relay. Individuals placing third were Hurst in the 200 IM, Watson in the 100 butterfly and Quinn Crawmer in the 100 breaststroke. Winners for the Dragons girls were Adrianna Huston in the 50 freestyle (27.03), Chloe Siler in the 100 butterfly (1:10.37) and the 400 free relay team of Sullie Leavell, Siler, Katelyn Trimpe and Huston (4:04.80). Finishing second were Trimpe in the 200 freestyle, Ava Tuley in diving and the 200 free relay team of Lillie Abernathy, Hanna Stone, Leavell and Huston. Individuals placing third were Siler in the 200 freestyle, Lauren Appleby in diving, Olivia Melangton in the 500 freestyle, Rachel Hamilton in the 100 backstroke and Abernathy in the 100 breaststroke. The Dragons boys are now 4-1 on the season, while the girls are 4-5. Both teams next compete at 11 a.m. Saturday at the East Central Relays.
