CC teams sweep New Palestine Invitational

The New Palestine cross country teams swept Saturday's New Palestine Invitational, the first Saturday titles for the Dragons on the season. The Dragons boys swept the top three spots and won with 25 places, ahead of Cascade (44), Shelbyville (98), Greenwood Christian (102) and Martinsville (112). Jake Cooper won the individual title by more than a minute, posting a time of 16:49.98. Mike Bauer was second (17:57.04) and Gavin Smith third (17:57.62). Carson Cooper placed sixth (18:31.34) and Gabe Silvey 13th (18:58.83). The Dragons won the girls meet with 34 places, beating Beech Grove (60), Shelbyville (67) and Martinsville (73). Abby Journay finished third overall (21:43.48). Taylor Burke was fourth (21:43.80), Addison Uhl eighth (22:56.40), McKenzie Hacker ninth (22:57.41) and Heidi Bloomer 10th (23:08.55). The Dragons next compete in the Oct. 19 sectional at Mt. Vernon.
