Tennis falls in regional final; Haynes, Havel advance

The New Palestine boys tennis team fell in the regional final Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-1 decision to Fishers. Moses Haynes/Max Havel won their match at No. 1 doubles, pulling out a tight 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory, improving to 4-0 in the tournament. By virtue of being unbeaten, they will advance in the individual tournament and compete in Saturday's individual sectional at Mt. Vernon. The Dragons also got a strong performance at No. 2 doubles, where Carson Rush/Andrew Hahn dropped a tight 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision. NP fell in straight sets at all three singles spots. Brady Torzewski - who delivered the clinching point in both the sectional championship and regional semifinal wins - played a strong match but fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. At No. 1, Arjomand Khokhar fell 6-1, 6-2, while Joey McPike fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. The Dragons finish an outstanding season with a 17-4 record, winning county and sectional titles and advancing to the regional championship match.
