Golf 16th at State Finals; Deering finishes 20th

The New Palestine girls golf team had a strong day Saturday to finish 16th at the IHSAA State Finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The Dragons shot 736 as a team, improving their score by 20 strokes with a 358 on Saturday. Sophomore Lauren Deering finished in a 20th-place tie out of a field of 110 golfers. She shot a 15-over par 159 over the two days. She shot 77 Saturday after posting an 82 on Friday. She tied for the 13th-lowest score on Saturday. Junior Katie Kelley had a consistent two days, shooting 175. She had an 87 on Saturday, following Friday's 88. Senior Lily Kirchner improved her score by 21 strokes Saturday, shooting a 92 to finish with a two-day total of 205. Janie Hamilton finished with a 207, including 102 Saturday. Matti Tiede-White was the Dragons' fifth score with a 222, shooting 119 Saturday.
