Boys swimmers down G-C in season opener

The New Palestine boys swimming and diving team opened the season Tuesday with an emphatic 120-66 victory over visiting Greenfield-Central. The Dragons girls dropped a 134-52 decision. The Dragons boys won eight of the 12 events en route to the meet victory. Dawson Lynch won four events to lead the Dragons. The Dragons opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Liam Fuller and Ashton Turner posted a time of 1:50.65, with Jake Myers, Blake Hurst, Reese Cox and Ian Erwin finishing second. The Dragons swept the relays, with Myers, Fuller, James Watson and Dontae Thompson winning the 200 free relay in 1:39.17, with Kingery, Hurst, Erwin and Turner finishing second. Watson, Fuller, Lynch and Thompson won the 400 free relay in 3:40.62. Individual event winners were Lynch in the 200 IM (2:17.86) and 100 butterfly (1:01.41), Erwin in the 100 freestyle (54.08), Cox in the 100 backstroke (1:07.09) and Kingery in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.17). Finishing second were Thompson in the 200 free, Cox in the 200 IM, Fuller in the 50 free, Daxton Gibson in diving, Myers in the 100 butterfly, Karter McNeil in the 500 freestyle and Hurst in the 100 breaststroke. Leading the Dragons girls were second-place finishers Adrianna Huston in the 200 freestyle and Chloe Siler in the 50 freestyle. Also finishing second was the 200 free relay team of Huston, Sullie Leavell, Cadyn Brown and Siler. The Dragons boys are now 1-0 on the season, while the girls are 3-2. Both teams are back in action Thursday at Perry Meridian.
