Golf clinches repeat trip to State Finals

The New Palestine girls golf team is headed back to the IHSAA State Finals. The Dragons shot 334 Saturday at the regional at Edgewood Golf Course in Anderson, placing third among the 15 teams and clinching a State Finals berth. Lauren Deering shot a season-best 74 to finish fifth overall in the field. Katie Kelley added a 79, while Lily Kirchner shot 85 and Janie Hamilton 96. Matti Tiede-White's 100 was the Dragons' fifth score. Noblesville (294) and Hamilton Southeastern (302) took the top two spots. The Dragons clinched their State Finals berth by nine strokes over fourth-place Lapel (343). The Dragons will compete in the State Finals Oct. 4-5 at Prairie View GC in Carmel.
