DeLois wins title at Southport

Sydney DeLois won the title at Saturday's "The Gobbler" girls wrestling invitational at Southport, leading four Dragons who placed at the event. DeLois won the title in the 119-126 weight class, winning with five falls. Her longest match was her first one, as she took 3:37 to pin Attica's Cheyenne Farrell. She followed with falls of 3:00 over Lafayette Jeff's Michelle Perez, :47 over Franklin's Anna Arena, 1:09 over Purdue Poly's Maizie Queen and 1:23 over Arena in the championship match. Madisyn Covington placed third in the 132-143 bracket. She had three falls in her pool - pinning Bedford North Lawrence's Alivia Crane in 2:40, Decatur Central's Kameyia Reece in :47 and Muncie Central's Kadence Jones in 1:43. She lost her semifinal match to Jasper's Laine Mullins by fall in 2:58, then won the third place match over Crane with a 1:12 fall. Julia Champ finished sixth in the 147-162 bracket. She won two of her matches in pool play, then won her consolation semifinal by fall in 1:09 over New Albany's Cinthya Marroquin before dropping the fifth-place match. Jillian Champ finished seventh at 127-132. She went 1-4 on the day, winning her seventh-place match. The Dragons girls wrestling team is back in action Dec. 3 at the Ben Davis Invitational.
