Girls swimmers split with Roncalli, Greenwood

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team split a close triangular meet with Greenwood and Roncalli Thursday. The Dragons beat Roncalli 54-47 and fell to Greenwood 52-48. Winners for the Dragons were Katelyn Trimpe in the 200 freestyle (2:15.04), Chloe Siler in the 50 freestyle (26.62), Lauren Appleby in diving (136.80) and the 400 free relay team of Rachel Hamilton, Madalyn Bard, Heidi Bloomer and Lillie Abernathy (4:32.74). Finishing second were Abernathy in the 200 IM, Trimpe in the 100 backstroke and the 200 free relay team of Trimpe, Olivia Melangton, Emma Snyder and Siler. Individuals finishing third were Katie Kelley in diving, Hamilton in the 100 butterfly, Melangton in the 100 freestyle and Bloomer in the 500 freestyle. The Dragons are next in action Nov. 29 at home against Greenfield-Central. It will be a combined boys/girls meet and the boys' season opener.
