Girls basketball falls to Warren Central

The New Palestine girls basketball team dropped a 60-42 decision Thursday at home to Warren Central. The loss drops the Dragons' record to 2-3 on the season. The Dragons and Warriors played to a 12-all tie in the first quarter, with Vivian Miller scoring six points to help rally the Dragons from an early deficit. WC used a late second-quarter run to take a 30-18 lead going into halftime. Isabella Gizzi hit two 3-pointers and scored 13 third-quarter points to try to draw the Dragons closer, as they outscored WC 15-12 in the frame and trailed 42-33 going into the final period. WC outscored the Dragons 18-9 in the closing minutes to pull away, ddespite five points from Gizzi and three from Allie Blum. Gizzi led the Dragons with 26 points, hitting three 3-pointers and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Miller added eight. Blum scored five and Sadey Hughbanks three. Asiah Baxter led WC with 20 points. Prior to the game, Gizzi was recognized for becoming the school's career scoring leader. Her 26-point effort ran her career total to 1,199 points. The Dragons next play Tuesday at home against Rushville.
