Girls swim opens with two victories

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team opened the season with a pair of victories Tuesday in the NPHS natatorium. The Dragons defeated Shelbyville 59-42 and Lawrence Central 73-24 in a triangular meet. Individual winners for the Dragons were Olivia Melangton in the 200 free (2:30.11), Kyleigh Turner in the 50 free (28.36), Katelyn Trimpe in the 500 free (6:03.33) and Madalyn Bard in the 100 breaststroke (1:32.21). Also winning were the 200 medley relay of Trimpe, Lillie Abernathy, Chloe Siler and Turner (2:07.62) and the 200 free relay of Emma Snyder, Turner, Hanna Stone and Siler (1:57.88). Finishing second were Lauren Appleby in diving, Rachel Hamilton in the 100 free, Isabelle Singer in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 free relay B team of Abernathy, Emily Appleby, Heidi Bloomer and Wright. Individuals finishing third were Singer in the 200 IM, Siler in the 100 butterfly, Melangton in the 500 free and Hamilton in the 100 backstroke. The Dragons (2-0) are next in action Thursday at Greenwood in a triangular meet with Roncalli.
