Boys CC second at Whiteland, girls fourth

The New Palestine boys cross country team finished second at Saturday's Whiteland Invitational. The Dragons placed three runners in the top 15 and tallied 87 places, finishing behind host Whiteland (31). The Dragons were ahead of Greenwood (127), Columbus East (138) and Eastern Greene (153) in the 13-team race. Gavin Smith led the Dragons with an 11th-place finish (17:40.33). Mike Bauer was 12th (17:44.30), Jake Cooper 14th (17:45.43), Carson Cooper 20th (18:12.25) and Sam Ragsdale 32nd (18:41.88). The Dragons girls finished fourth out of 11 teams, tallying 97 places. Whiteland (40), Greenwood (73) and Eastern Greene (90) took the top three places. The Dragons finished well ahead of fifth-place Beech Grove (164). Abby Journay led the Dragons with a seventh-place finish (21:10.0). Taylor Burke was 15th (21:55.9), Addison Uhl 19th (22:13.4), Taylor Stone 26th (22:53.56) and Heidi Bloomer 31st (23:00.03). The Dragons next compete Sept. 21 at the Shelbyville Golden Bear Invitational.
