Girls golf claims county crown

The New Palestine girls golf team won its third consecutive Hancock County championship Tuesday, sweeping the top three spots and four of the top five places to win the four-team tournament at Hawk's Tail. The Dragons shot 160, besting Mt. Vernon (186), Greenfield-Central (228) and Eastern Hancock (237). Lily Kirchner was the individual county champion, shooting a 38. Lauren Deering placed second overall with a 39, while Katie Kelley shot 40 to finish third. Janie Hamilton's 43 tied for fifth. Matti Tiede-White's 51 was the Dragons' fifth score and tied for eighth overall in the 20-player field. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Maple Creek Country Club against Cathedral.
