Boys tennis downs Delta for first time in seven years

The New Palestine boys tennis team downed perennial Hoosier Heritage Conference power Delta Monday, defeating the Eagles 4-1 at home. The Dragons three matches in straight sets to earn the victory. At No. 1 singles, Arjomand Khokhar won 6-4, 6-4. Carson Rush also won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Moses Haynes and Max Havel were first off the court, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Joey McPike/Andrew Hahn won 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the fourth point for the Dragons. The lone loss was Brady Torzewski at No. 2 singles, who dropped a tight 6-4, 7-6(6) contest. The Dragons JV also won 7-6. "Outstanding performance by Carson Rush, playing his first varsity singles match and winning in a three-hour match," coach Jean Graham said. "Also, Joey McPike and Andrew Hahn played very well to win No. 2 doubles, with Hahn stepping in for the injured Tyler Wilson. Outstanding team win." The Dragons (4-1, 2-0 HHC) are next in action Tuesday at Franklin in a match that will be played under the lights at 7 p.m.
