The New Palestine boys soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Greenfield-Central in Wednesday's Shelbyville sectional semifinal. The Dragons' season finishes at 8-8-1. The Cougars scored in the 26th minute on a clean look from inside the box to the upper corner of the net. Otherwise, the Dragons' defense held against a strong attack. Blake Bobrow made a dozen saves, including two from close range on back-to-back shots in the 10th minute. He also made a sliding kick save after a far-post cross left him isolated 1v1 with a Cougar at the top of the six-yard box. The Dragons had two early shots on goal stopped by the G-C keeper. Many of their other opportunities came from distance. Brendan Tanksley had a looping shot that just cleared the bar in the 37th minute. Cole Christopher hit a laser in the 69th minute that just missed the frame. Another hard shot from Paxton Holmes skimmed just over the crossbar in the 77th minute. The two best opportunities came in the second half. Chase Martin sent a cross in to Cody Crawmer, who headed it on frame but was stopped by the G-C goalkeeper in the 54th minute. In the 60th minute, a strong buildup set Elliott Canova up for a clean look from the 18. His shot toward the lower-left corner forced a diving save, which was deflected out for a corner. Despite the defeat, the Dragons clinched their first .500 season since 2016, concluding the careers of Bobrow, Tanksley, Crawmer and Martin on a strong note.
