Volleyball wins Southport Invitational title

The New Palestine volleyball team swept its way through Saturday's Southport Invitational to win the championship of the five-team tournament. The Dragons went 4-0 on the day, dropping just one set. The Dragons opened with a 25-21, 25-17 victory over Scecina. Natalie Sevier had 10 digs and three kills and served a 14-point run. Josie Corbett had 10 kills, Caylee Brown eight and Hayden Ramsey six. Sam Gooding had 24 assists, four digs nad a block, while Azure Flagle had nine digs. The Dragons then beat East Central 25-8, 25-14. Sevier had eight kills and Ramsey five. Gooding had 19 assists, three kills and an ace. Flagle tallied nine digs and two aces, while Corbett had four digs, four kills and two aces. The Dragons rallied in their third match to beat host Southport 17-25, 25-20, 15-6. Flagle tallied 20 digs and Kyndra Monteith 13. Gooding had 31 assists. Corbett had 10 kills and two aces, while Ramsey added nine kills, Brown six and Sevier six kills and two aces. In the day's final match, the Dragons beat Fort Wayne Blackhawk 25-17, 25-12. Flagle had five aces and six digs, while Ramsey tallied 10 kills and three blocks. The Dragons are now 8-0 on the season and have won 20 of 22 sets. The Dragons also won the JV title, beating Scecina, Southport and Guerin Catholic. The Dragons are next in action Wednesday at home against Hamilton Heights.
