The New Palestine girls volleyball team played a long first set, then rallied to take control in Saturday's season opener, defeating host Scecina 28-30, 25-17, 25-22, 25-11. Hayden Ramsey led the Dragons with 18 kills, six blocks, three aces and four digs. Azure Flagle added 21 digs and three aces. Sam Gooding had 44 assists, seven digs, four kills and two aces. Kyndra Monteith added 10 digs and two aces. Natalie Sevier had 14 digs and nine kills. Josie Corbitt had eight kills, while Caylee Brown added seven kills. "We built some character today and I’m so proud of how we battled," Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. "The first set was back and forth and very competitive. We bounced back and took the next three sets. Scecina is a talented squad with some great outsides. We did a nice job staying composed and sticking together. Great win for us." The Dragons are back in action Monday in their home opener against Connersville.
