Golf opens season at Fall Preview

The New Palestine girls golf team opened it season Saturday on the course where it hopes to finish - Prairie View GC in Carmel. The Dragons finished 13th of 18 teams in the IHSAA Fall Preview tournament, shooting 376 in a tournament featuring many of the state's top teams. Lauren Deering led the Dragons, shooting an 86 to finish tied for 24th overall. Katie Kelley shot 88 to tie for 29th in the 90-player field. Janie Hamilton added a 100 and Lily Kirchner 102. Mattingly Tiede-White's 113 was the Dragons' fifth score. Westfield - the defending state runner-up - won the tournament with a 319, followed by Zionsville (320), Noblesville (326) and Floyd Central (343). The Dragons finished eight strokes back of 12th-place HOmestead and one ahead of Bedford North Lawrence. The Dragons are back in action Monday in their first dual meet of the year, as they face Greenwood at Valle Vista.
