CC competes at Shelbyville

The New Palestine cross country teams competed in Saturday's Shelbyville Golden Bear Invitational at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville. The Dragons' boys finished 11th of 13 teams in the black (large school) division, tallying 311 places. Jake Cooper led the Dragons with a 52nd-place finish (17:55.6). Gavin Smith was 63rd (18:18.7), Jacob Collins 80th (18:48.7), Sam Ragsdale 83rd (19:03) and Isaac Poetz 86th (19:09.7). Carmel won with 37 places, beating Mt. Vernon (84) and Columbus North (92). The Dragons finished ahead of New Castle (366) and Shelbyville (374). The Dragons girls finished 12th of 12 teams in the black division with 283 places. Carmel (44), Cathedral (67) and Columbus North (116) took the top three spots. Courtney Study led the Dragons with a 34th-place finish (21:03.5). Alexis Baynes was 66th (22:08.8), Cami Massari 72nd (22:37.6), Edie Schwarb 78th (22:53) and Heidi Bloomer 87th (23:23.5). The Dragons head back to Shelbyville Oct. 1 for the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet on the same Blue River Park course.
