Boys track advances to regional in six events

The New Palestine boys track and field team advanced to the regional in six events from Friday's sectional at Greenfield-Central. The field events were completed Thursday, but malfunctioning timing equipment caused the running events to be postponed to Friday. As a team, the Dragons finished tied for fifth in the 11-team sectional, scoring 44 points. Franklin Central won with 155.5 points, followed by Greenfield-Central (109), Warren Central (106) and Roncalli (89). The Dragons were tied with Triton Central. The Dragons' 4x100 relay finished third and set a school record with a time of 43.11. Will Bardonner, Eli Wasson, Desmond Palmer and Colton Spears set the mark and will advance to the regional. The 4x400 relay of Charlie Rigsbee, Jake Cooper, Dylan Dragoo and David Pack also finished third to advance (3:25.45). The 4x800 relay of Daniel Davis, Gavin Smith, Rigsbee and Cooper finished fifth, but will advance to the regional on time (8:29.80). Jake Cooper clinched a regional spot, finishing third in the 1600 (4:21.29). Quinn Crawmer will also advance, tying for third in the pole vault (12-6). Colton Spears finished fifth in the 100 but will also advance on time (11.12). The Dragons also scored in six other events. David Pack was sixth in the 400. Spears placed sixth in the high jump. Eli Wasson was seventh in the 200. Brock Brownfield was seventh in shot put. Paxton Holmes placed eighth in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
