Michael Thorpe pitched a two-hit shutout Friday to lead the New Palestine baseball team to a 10-0 five-inning victory over Greenwood in the Dragons' regular season finale. The Dragons scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in the victory. Jacob Morris hit a two-run homer and scored twice for the Dragons, who were efficient, scoring 10 runs on six hits. The Dragons' big inning needed just two hits. It started when Nic Deering was hit by a pitch. Morris followed with a single and Jackson Kamp walked. Rigg Mahurin's single plated the first run. Morris scored on a wild pitch. After a walk to Ben Hirschy, Wyatt Mathies was hit by a pitch to put the Dragons up 3-0. Gavin Neal's infield hit plated another run. Adam Rickey and Deering were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to push across two more runs. Neal came home on another wild pitch. In the third, Deering singled ahead of Morris' two-run homer to left to push the lead to 9-0. The Dragons triggered the mercy rule in the fifth when Neal walked and scored on Jace Jaques' double. Morris was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Deering was 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI. Mahurin was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Neal was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
