Allie Blum homered twice - including a grand slam in the sixth inning - and drove in seven runs to lead the New Palestine softball team to a 9-0 victory over Triton Central. The victory improves the third-ranked Dragons' record to 18-3 on the season. Cailyn Hurst and Sadey Hughbanks combined on the shutout. Hurst pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Hughbanks fanned one and allowed one hit in the seventh. Blum had three of the Dragons' six hits. The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Reese Rosenbaum singled and scored when Ella Holman reached on an error. Jersi Gross walked to put two runners on for Blum who launched one over the leftfield fence to put the Dragons up 4-0. After being retired in order in the fifth, the Dragons again pounced in the sixth. Rosenbaum and Saydie Miller led the inning off with walks. Holman singled to load the bases. Gross drew a walk to force in a run, setting the stage for Blum, who launched a 2-0 pitch over the leftfield fence for her second homer of the day. The grand slam gave the Dragons a 9-0 lead. Blum now has 15 homers on the season. Maddie Engle and Rosenbaum were both 1-for-3. Holman was 1-for-2 with two runs. Gross did not have an official at-bat as she walked four times. She scored twice and drove in a run. The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Connersville.
