The New Palestine baseball team used a strong pitching performance to beat New Castle 6-2 Wednesday afternoon. The Dragons finish with an 11-3 record in conference play. They are currently 20-5 with one scheduled regular season game remaining, which will be Friday against Greenwood. The Dragons swept the two-game series, their fourth conference sweep of the year. Ben Hirschy pitched five hitless innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight, to earn the win in his first start in an HHC game this season. Adam Rickey came on in relief and allowed two hits and struck out two. Much like Tuesday's series opener, the Dragons surrendered the first run but quickly re-took the lead. NC scored on an error in the second. The Dragons needed an inning to take the lead, but it quickly came in the fourth. Jacob Morris led off with a single. Jackson Kamp followed with an RBI triple to plate the first run. Kamp then scored on Rigg Mahurin's grounder to short to put the Dragons up 2-1. In the fifth, Rickey led off with a single and scored on Morris' double to extend the lead. After a base hit by Kamp, Mahurin laced a single to center to plate Morris. Hirschy's sacrifice fly added another run and gave the Dragons a 5-1 edge. The Dragons added another run in the sixth when Jace Jaques doubled and scored on Rickey's sacrifice fly. New Castle scored a run in the seventh on a triple and passed ball, but the Dragons were able to seal the victory. Morris was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to pace the Dragons' 10-hit attack. Kamp was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Rickey was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Mahurin was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Wyatt Mathies and Jaques also had hits for the Dragons.
