The New Palestine baseball team used three triples to highlight two big innings Tuesday in an 8-1 victory over New Castle. The victory improved the Dragons' record to 19-5 (10-3 HHC). They visit New Castle today to conclude the two-game series and the HHC schedule. Jacob Morris, Nic Deering and Landon Ballard all tripled for the Dragons, helping key a pair of big innings. After surrendering the first run of the game in the top of the fourth, the Dragons responded with three in the bottom of the frame, followed by a five-run fifth. Rigg Mahurin allowed two hits and no earned runs in a complete-game win, striking out eight. He and Morris led the Dragons' seven-hit attack, each going 2-for-3. Mahurin scored once, while Morris scored twice and drove in a run. Deering was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Ballard was 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI. Liam Atkinson also had a hit for the Dragons. The Dragons had just two baserunners in the first three innings, but broke through in the fourth. After surrendering an unearned run in the top of the inning, the Dragons responded in the bottom of the frame. Morris led off with a triple and scored on Jackson Kamp's grounder to the right side to tie the game. Jace Jaques reached on a two-base error. Mahurin followed with a hard infield single up the middle off the pitcher and Ben Hirschy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wyatt Mathies drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Mahurin then came home on the lead half of a double-steal to put NP up 3-1. In the fifth, Rickey drew a leadoff walk and immediately scored when Deering hit a long triple to right. Morris plated Deering with a hard grounder up the middle for a single. An error allowed Kamp to reach. Both scored when Ballard, pinch-hitting, tripled to deep left. Ballard then came home on Mahurin's grounder.
