Tennis competes at Franklin

The New Palestine girls tennis team competed Saturday at the Franklin Invitational. The Dragons went 0-3 on the day, dropping each match 4-1. In the opening round against Roncalli, Josephine Harvey/Emily Appleby won 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Amelia Schneider/Riley Watts dropped a tight 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 decision. Kaitlyn Mitchell (6-1, 6-1), Bethany Blachly (6-2, 6-0) and Maizy Haynes (6-3, 6-1) all fell at singles. In the second match, the Dragons fell to Terre Haute South. At No. 2 doubles, Amelia Rojowski/Elliott Graham won by injury default. The day's closets match came from Harvey at No. 2 singles, who fell 6-4, 7-6(3). Mitchell (6-0, 6-1) and Kenzie Kleiman (6-0, 6-0) fell at singles, while Blachly/Watts dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 1 doubles. In the third round against Franklin, the Dragons' victory came from Haynes at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-0). Blachly (6-1, 6-0) and Watts (6-1, 6-3) dropped their matches at singles. At doubles, Schneider/Appleby dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision, while Harvey/Graham lost by injury default. The Dragons are now 7-5 on the season. They next play Monday against Mt. Vernon.
