The New Palestine baseball team celebrated its seniors Saturday, and they contributed big in a 10-2 victory over visiting Connersville. Henry Thorpe earned the win on the mound, allowing one earned run, four hits and fanning five over six innings before yielding to Ben Hirschy for the seventh. Those two also led the Dragons' nine-hit attack, with both going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Connersville scored an unearned run in the first inning, but the lead was short-lived. Adam Rickey and Nic Deering led off with walks. After Wyatt Mathies reached on an error, Rickey scored. A walk to Hirschy loaded the bases, where Jace Jaques lined a two-run single to center to put the Dragons up 3-1. Henry Thorpe added another RBI single to extend the lead. In the second, Rickey again drew a leadoff walk and scored on Hirschy's single to make it a 5-1 game. Connersville palted a run in the third, but the Dragons broke the game open late. In the fifth, Gavin Neal drew a leadoff walk. After the next two batters were retired, Jacob Morris drove Neal home with a single to right. After a walk to Rickey, Jackson Kamp plated another run with a single to left. Rickey later scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth, the Dragons added two more as Landon Ballard and Neal walked to lead off the frame. Jesse Isaacs drove in a run with a double to right, followed by Jack Anderson's sacrifice fly. In addition to Hirschy and Thorpe's two hits each, Kamp and Isaacs were each 1-for-1 with an RBI. Jaques was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Morris was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI. Anderson was 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Dragons are now 16-3. They next play Tuesday at home against Pendleton Heights.
